Summer storms are bad enough for the damage they cause to your home and the inconvenience of having to make repairs. Winter storms can be worse as they can as much or more damage. When the power goes out in winter, it is scary and potentially dangerous if you aren't prepared to spend some time without power. Most of what you do while at home relies on power, whether hobbies to pass the time or heating the space and keeping yourself and your family comfortable.

Nothing is quite so exciting as building a new home, especially when you're building your dream home to custom designs to suit every need your family could ever hope for. The rooms are placed the way you want them and the traffic flow is paced the way you want it. One aspect which is often overlooked but should be planned is the electric system for your new house. The electric system is more intricate than simply providing an outlet wherever you think you may want a light, but instead requires forethought and planning.

Large public buildings, especially schools and hospitals, have had their own electric generators for emergency situations in which the power grid fails to deliver. More recently, people have become aware of how comforting it can be to have a personal backup generator available for their homes. A power outage, even temporarily, can be a scary ordeal. You’ve become used to having lights available at the flip of a switch, hot water to bathe whenever you want, and a stove to prepare food at mealtime. Most of the things you do on a daily basis require an electric device, making it quite disorienting when the power grid fails to deliver.
