Dealing with Electric Failures, Day by Day

Power failures are frustrating and difficult in ways people don't always understand. Being used to having a steady power source, you don't always think of the full effects of a power outage. If the power outage is short, it can be fun to have a cookout on a grill and a family dinner by candlelight. The TV doesn't work, so you might find a movie to watch on your computer, until you realize you don't have enough battery life and there is no way to recharge it. You want to call the power company to find out what is going on, but they put you on hold and again, there's no way to charge your phone battery. You might decide to go out to eat or even stay with friends, but you, your spouse, and your children need to bathe first and there's no hot water.

Electrical Systems and New Construction Projects

Whether brand new or relatively new, if you buy a home which is completely built you probably don't need to hire an electrician to move in although you may need a few customization made to allow for the needs of your family. If you buy a house as the contractor is finishing it with time to allow for your input on final details, he probably already has an electrician lined up for the job. If you build a house yourself, or hire a contractor to build your plans on your lot, you'll have more input toward the project and may decide to hire your own electrical contractor rather than using the one recommended by the general building contractor.
